"There’s something one should expect not only of a watch but also of oneself: to never stand still" Walter Lange

  • This festive season, savour the preciousness of time.

“It is our manufacture’s aspiration to never stand still. But in order to proceed in the right direction, it is sometimes necessary to briefly pause and consider,” explains our CEO, Wilhelm Schmid.

During this time of the year, many people take time to reflect and ask themselves where they are coming from and where they are heading. Both our timepieces – the 1815 ANNUAL CALENDAR and our LANGE 1 - are expressions of these two concepts. While our 1815 ANNUAL CALENDAR is emblematic of the watchmaking traditions in which we are rooted, the LANGE 1 is a symbol of new beginnings.

We invite you to explore our collection in one of our boutiques and learn more about how they embody the value of time.

A. Lange & Söhne creates outstanding mechanical timepieces that feature challenging complications and follow a clear and classical design line. Innovative engineering skills and traditional craftsmanship at the highest level guarantee a state-of-the-art calibre design with meticulously hand-finished movements and utmost mechanical precision.

Dresden watchmaker Ferdinand Adolph Lange laid the cornerstone of Saxony’s precision watchmaking industry when he established his manufactory in 1845. His vision: setting new standards by crafting unique mechanical timepieces with the highest quality in aesthetics, precision and intricacies. His precious pocket watches remain highly valued among collectors all over the world. After the Second World War, the company was expropriated and the name A. Lange & Söhne nearly vanished. But in 1990, Walter Lange, Ferdinand Adolph Lange’s great-grandson, ventured to start over again – following his credo to “never stand still”.

Today, Lange crafts only a few thousand wristwatches per year – predominantly in gold or platinum. They are endowed exclusively with proprietary movements that are lavishly decorated and twice assembled by hand. With 69 manufacture calibres developed since 1990, A. Lange & Söhne has secured a top-tier position among the world’s finest watch brands. Its greatest successes include brand icons such as the Lange 1, the first regularly produced wristwatch with an outsize date, and the Zeitwerk, with its precisely jumping numerals. Extraordinary complications such as the Zeitwerk Minute Repeater, the Triple Split and the most complicated model so far, the Grand Complication. Introduced in 2013 in a limited edition of six, this piece represents what the manufactory always strives for: to drive the traditional art of watchmaking to ever-new heights. The sporty yet elegant Odysseus, introduced in 2019, marked the start of a new chapter for A. Lange & Söhne.
